we miss you!

Corey left for NTC for his combat training on the 30th at 2:30 in the morning. :( We miss him so much but are trying to keep ourselves busy. I am so grateful that he will only be gone for about 30 days. McKayla has taken it pretty well and just tells everyone that her daddy is at school. She is being a big helper to me. And Teyton just keeps growing and growing, I just hopes that he slows down for just one month so Corey doesn't feel like he is missing out on too much. But the good news is that my Mom is going to be coming in a few days to visit us for about a week! We are all very excited, thanks Mom! XOXO

Teyton just got the first of his childhood battle wounds. He wants to walk so badly he will grab onto anyone or anything that might be able to help him to move faster. This happened when he stood up and was walking along our Love Sac and the top of his body was moving faster than the bottom and he ate it! He hit his eye right on the wheel of our computer chair. But not even 15 minutes after this fall he was up and moving again with his beautiful smile. I don't think that anything can get this child down for long.

We wanted to have fun last week together so we packed it full of fun family activities. One of the favorites was we went to Chuck E Cheese. Kayla had so much fun! She loved all the fun games and kids running around going crazy and of course pizza! I think it was pretty close to her heaven. She made out pretty well with her winnings. Corey had fun too, when he comes home I'll have to just send him with Kayla on a Daddy daughter date. They just had so much fun together.

Although we did have a lot of fun last week, it was not all smiles and laughter. While I was feeding Teyton Kayla was suppose to be playing in the front yard but she snuck away to one of her friends house. One of Kayla's friends decided to play hairstylist and cut Kayla's and a couple other girls hair, Kayla got the worst of it though. :( If it were any shorter I would've seriously cried. On top there is a piece of hair that is probably about 2 inches long. Luckily if I comb it right no one can tell. I had been wanting to cut her hair like this for awhile now, but Kayla loves to wear ponytails. She doesn't look like my little girl anymore it makes her look like one of the big girls now, but she is still as beautifual as ever! Yesterday she told me that she needed her hair to grow back. :( She was just so sad. I guess this was a hard lesson for her, and hopefully she will remember to listen to me and not play where she shouldn't be playing.

The afternoon before Corey had to take off we all went to see WALL-E. If you haven't seen it yet you should (which you probably have, we don't normally don't see movies in the theater, we rent or buy them). We all loved it including Teyton. McKayla got really into the movie and at one point I thought she was going to cry. I asked her what her favorite part of the movie was, and she said the part with WALL-E, haha. She is such a cutie.

it's a wonderful life!

I just love my two kids so much! Whenever I am having a bad day all I have to do is look at these two and I can't help but feel better. They both have eyes and smiles that just melt your heart. I know that I am biased, but I think that I am the luckiest Mommy in the world to have such wonderful and beautiful children inside and out!

Normally it is the older sibling that teaches new tricks to the younger, but not in our family's case. I have mentioned before that Teyton loves to climb everything. He gets so excited when he knows that he is doing big kid stuff. McKayla has never been interested in getting to a place that is out of her reach. This all changed recently. Kayla has been watching Teyton climb and thinks that it looks pretty fun, so slowly she has follwed suit. It has now reached the point where she is climbing up onto counters without any sort of booster or step stool. Now when she washes her hands or brushes her teeth, she won't even try to use her step stool so I'll hear her call, "Mommy, pwease I need da hewp down!" It is really cute to watch. :) She is so limber and very quick. It just makes me nervous because they both haven't figured out a safe way to climb back down from their adventures! :)

Most of you know that I have an extreme phobia of spiders. Little tiny ones I can handle and can get rid of them if needed when they come into our house. But once they reach the size of a penny or larger (I know that it is still pretty small) I completely freeze up. This is a serious problem because Corey is going to be leaving in a week for some training for one month and then come December he will be gone for his 12 month deployment. Well the other day I was on a walk and saw one of these suckers hiding. They are Cane Spiders and generally stay away from people, and are really good for eating all of the nasty roaches around here, but they are HUGE! Just the body is probably anywhere between the size of a quarter to a fifty cent piece, ugh. My next door neighbor found one of these guys living in there house crawling across the wall. Just thinking about it makes me sick. They caught and kept it in a bug cage for awhile, the kids loved it. I didn't mind it too much as long as it was in the cage and at least 5 yards away from me, haha. Well the other night I had such a nightmare about one of these guys hanging down over my bed. I seriously woke up screaming! So I went out and got some bug bombs. We are going to bomb the house this weekend so the kids and I will be nice and safe while Corey is gone.

sleeping angel

Teyton has been on a kick where he just doesn't want to sleep. The other day he was so cranky! The only thing that was making him happy was sitting in his high chair. So I turned on Signing Time and started folding laundry. After a couple of minutes it was just too quiet so I look over at him and he had fallen asleep! He just looked so peaceful. I was glad that he was able to relax himself. McKayla went through a similar stage and I think that I have a picture of her asleep in her highchair too. Kids are too funny, they just don't want to sleep because they are so sure that something exciting is going to happen. At least that was what I thought when I was little. :)

my princess

McKayla loves to dress up like any little girl does. I saw a picture of this cute ballerina dress and decided to try and make it myself. I think it is pretty good for not having a pattern to go off of. She just loves it! She wants to be in a dance class so badly but it is so hard to get a slot around here. Hopefully a spot will open up in August. In the meantime she can keep dancing around the house like she does, I love her performances. :)

at the beach

We just love being able to play at the beach together. This weekend the water was so calm and the kids had so much fun. While we were in the water there was a school of fish swimming around our feet. It was really neat. Teyton didn't like it so much, but Kayla loved seeing how they shimmer in the water. She did decided that it was time to get out of the water when a little boy said that he saw a baby stingray swimming around. So she spent the rest of her time sitting on the shoreline letting the water rush over her legs, and chasing little boys around the beach. She's only three and is already boy crazy.

new toy

Teyton has discovered the cupboards. He loves to play with the pots and pans making sounds by banging his hands on them and banging them on the floor. He is so curious, and has already figured out how to open the CD-ROM and DVD player. He also got the fridge open once! How he did that I'll never know. It is definatly time to do some extreme baby proofing around the house. The other day I peeked into his bedroom and saw him trying to figure out how to get out of his crib. I was amazed to see how far he got. I stepped in because I didn't want him to hurt himself. This is all so new to me. McKayla never did any of the things Teyton does, she was just content watching and absorbing the world around her. Even still she doesn't try to climb anything. As soon as Teyton starts walking I am in big trouble. I really love this stage he is in. It is fun to have kids completely opposite of each other, it keeps me on my toes.

McKayla and her friends love to run through the sprinklers. It has become a daily activity. Kayla is still trying to get up her courage to do a full run through the sprinklers, she doesn't really like having water splashed on her head. Seeing her friend doing it and having fun really helps her to be braver and try new thing that are outside her box. They have so much fun together. I love having little girls running around and giggling, I can't help but smile when I hear or watch them play.

4th of July

The kids had so much fun today from the very beginning of the day. Corey decided to give Teyton and Kayla a bath together and they had a blast. They were so cute together splashing each other and Teyton loved being able to crawl around the tub freely. I had never dared to let him crawl around the tub because he is such a mover. I thought that he would slip all the time and get scared of the water. But he was so good only one slip and it didn't even phase him, he just kept having fun.

One of the first things we did in the morning is go to the 4th of July carnival on the Army base and let Kayla go Horseback riding. She loves horses and was so relaxed when she was put on the saddle. I think that she would have stayed there all day if we let her. Teyton could not sit still he was so interested in seeing the horses. I wanted to let him touch one, but the line was really long for the horseback riding and I didn't want to hold it up. He'll get to do it next year though.

The next thing we did was go to the petting farm. So Teyton did get to look and touch the animals after all. He didn't really know what to do. He has really only seen rabbits and dogs before. I made sure to keep him away from the rabbits because he gets really rough with them. He really just enjoyed himself sitting and watching what the animals did. Kayla on the other hand was so excited when she got into gated area. She saw the rabbits first off and was in heaven. Then the chickens started getting too close for comfort. You can see that she is giving a chicken the eye while she was petting the rabbit. It was so funny, she eventually hopped up and ran from the chicken. She wouldn't touch the goats either. I think that they were a little intimidating to her. So I gave Teyton to Corey and showed her that all the animals were nice. It took some coaxing and two times going in and out, but she eventually pet every animal there.

We went to a barbecue with some friends after the petting farm. Kayla and Teyton didn't really eat much, I think that there was too much excitement going on. But they had lots of fun playing with toys while we were visiting.

After lunch the boys had a pie eating contest. The Ward Elders were actually going around visiting people in our ward and stopped at the Gibsons at the right time, so we suckered them into the contest as well. It was fun to watch them, but all the guys were complaining afterwards of the whipped cream smell that they had stuck up their noses. Corey kept saying that it was starting to smell like parmesan cheese. I think that they were just mad because there just wasn't enough pies left for the girls to participate after the unexpected arrival of the elders. ;)

We had so much fun at the Graves that we lost track of time. So we were late to the Billy Ray Cyrus Concert. Corey let Kayla and me out of the car while he searched for a parking spot. There was no parking anywhere! I have never seen this place so packed! So we listened to a couple of songs and Kayla danced a little. Kayla and all of her friends were excited that Hannah Montana's Dad was singing. I really don't think Kayla really knew what she was excited for though. But she still had a ton of fun. It ended up working out perfectly. We saw just enough for Kayla to enjoy herself, but didn't get bored from sitting in one spot too long.

After we were finished with the concert we let Kayla get all of her energy out by playing and jumping on the blowup toys that were set up at the carnival. She had so much fun. There was every possible blowup toy that you could think of. I was worried that Kayla would put up a fight when her turn was up, but because there were so many more toys that she wanted to play on she was more than happy to move on to the next. She even got really brave and climbed up to the top of the biggest one there and rolled down the slide. It was fun to see her enjoying herself so much.

McKayla only wanted to go on one of the rides that they had set up. She was too little to go on it by herself so she asked me to go with her. We had a lot of fun. It really didn't go that fast but she wanted to lean side to side as the ride went around and around so she could feel the wind blow her hair. She was giggling so much. Teyton had the biggest smile on his face every time we passed by him. He had a lot of fun with his Daddy while they waited for us girls. Corey is such a good Dad. Both Teyton and Kayla have so much fun when they are with him.

Finally after all that fun it was time for the firework show. Teyton didn't make a sound the whole time he just starred at them. Kayla really enjoyed herself at first, then she heard the cannons and that really scared her. It didn't even phase Teyton he was too wrapped up in the fireworks. Kayla eventually calmed down and enjoyed the rest of the show. It was a good day. I'd say the best 4th of July that we have had together as a family.

scooter fun

Teyton is obsessed with Corey's scooter and helmet. He is always grabbing for one or the other if it is within reach or arching backwards to try to will me closer to the scooter. He loves it when Corey or I will sit with him so he can examine it more closely. He is so curious about everything! You can tell that he is just trying to figure out how everything works. He is so smart.

new bike

Kayla has never been too interested in learning how to ride a bike until we moved here. She was having a hard time keeping up with all the kids in the neighborhood because they are always on bikes. So she was very excited when we got her a new bike. It took a little coaxing to get her to actually petal on her own, but she is a pro now. It is fun to see her get so excited because she can keep up with the big kids. And they are all really good at helping her out if she gets stuck. She loves wearing all the safety gear, which is good because she is accident prone like me. Seriously she has already used up 2 boxes of bandaids since we moved here! But it doesn't keep her from playing just as hard as ever. :)

my artist

Lately it has been really hot and so Kayla spends most of the day playing in the water with her friends. Well a couple of days ago she came home with the biggest smile on her face and said "Look Mommy! I'm so pretty!" I figured that she painted her finger nails or something. But she came home covered in marker drawings. I guess that all of the little girls got together and made each other over with markers. She was so cute about it, that it was hard to be mad at her. So we just took some pictures and told her not to do it again. So today she came home and had finger nail polish all over her face. I said McKayla didn't we just talk about this the other day? She said in the most innocent voice, "It not markers Mommy." I had to turn around so she couldn't see me smile and think that it was a joke. She is too smart for her own good.

brother and sister

McKayla and Teyton just love playing together. One of their favorite games is for Kayla to chase Teyton around the house. He gets so excited and is actually really fast. Kayla loves to make him laugh and smile and has fun crawling after him. The other day they were doing this and Kayla got distracted for a couple of seconds and Teyton lunged towards her and they both toppled over. It was so cute. I am so glad that Kayla is such a good sister and doesn't mind playing baby games with him.
