christmas eve

While I was spending a little time with Ryker on Christmas Eve, Corey was home sick, and my Mom was helping the kids make and decorate some sugar cookies with the kids.  They also pulled out the computer and started watch NORAD to track where Santa was dropping off presents.  When I came home we opened our Christmas Eve presents.  I love the traditional Christmas jammies and a new family game to play.  This year our new game is Operation!  After playing the game a few times, we made some magical reindeer food and set out cookies and milk for Santa, along with their lists of what they wanted to receive for Christmas.

Ryker was moved to a big baby bed today!  I am loving being able to see him grow and make so much progress each day!

grandmas with their newest grandbaby

I was so fun to see both Grandma Abbott and Grandma Bastian meet Ryker.  There is nothing like the love and bond between Grandparents and their Grandchildren.  I love the tender looks in both Mom and Karen's eyes while holding him.  I am so grateful that both of these women took so much time out of their busy schedules to come and help me and my little family. I don't know what I would have done without these two wonderful women in my life.

Today was the day that McKayla and Teyton were finally able to meet Ryker in person!  I was so excited to surprise them.  They got to spend a whole 2 hours with their baby brother, and got to have a visit with Santa to boot!  We were also chosen as one of the families who was on the news to show Santa coming to visit the kids at Memorial Hospital.  It was so cute to see the kids interact with Ryker.  They were so good at taking turns holding him.  I wish they could come and see him everyday.  Actually, if I am making wishes, I wish that we could take him home with us already!  I know that he still has a lot of developing and help that needs to be done at the hospital though.  A Mommy can dream though.

dec 16-19

I am loving that I am able to visit Ryker in the hospital everyday for hours at a time.  I don't know how I would make it through this process without my daily snuggles from my little bug!

Ryker has been gaining weight at a real steady pace, which is good.  Slowly but surly he is getting back up to his birth weight!  I love the look on Corey's face while he changes Ryker.  I am sure I look the same way.  He is just so tiny, I am afraid i am going to break him!

When Corey and I got home from the hospital today we had a fun little family night playing card games and making home made oreo truffles.  I have so much fun with my family!  I feel so blessed to be able to come home to them everyday.

quality time

I feel like I have not been able to be with my kids.  I realize it's because of things that are completely out of my control, but I wanted to do something special with Kayla and Teyton.  One of Rykers nurse told me that Santa was at the Mall, and that he was the best Santa she has ever taken her kids to see.  Right after our visit with Ryker yesterday, we decided to hurry home so we could eat and then go and visit Santa. Well, by the time we got there we had just missed him!  He was going on his dinner break and wouldn't be back for 90 mins!  There was no way in heck I was going to make it waiting 90 mins at the mall.  It was already a pretty crazy idea for me to attempt going some place like that so soon after being discharged, haha!  We didn't want the whole trip to be a bust though, so we let the kids play at the malls playground for a bit.

Good news!  Ryker was taken off of oxygen yesterday!!!

Today Ryker is off of the UV treatments!  His bilirubin levels are perfect, so they are not even a little bit worried that he will need to go back on.  I am so happy that he is making such wonderful progress already!  Amy the social service rep stopped by again and told us that if we are still here for the next little while, the hospital is going to be having Santa come to the NICU and that sibling will be allowed in for 2 hours that same day to see their baby brother or sister, and get pictures taken with Santa also. The other thing that would be going on is a Santa's Workshop.  I guess lots of people donate toys for the kids, and families of children who are staying in the NICU and PICU during the Christmas.  So us parents are able to go and pick out some toys for our kids.  I thought that was such an amazing idea!  I am hoping that we will be able to donate some toys next year as a way for us to pay it forward.
