cellulitis

McKayla was super happy on Friday, we were all having fun at Target trying on all of the silly Halloween wigs that they had set out, and was looking for the perfect costumes.  She started complaining that her cheek was hurting and I didn't think anything of it.  I gave her some tylenol thinking it was just a new molar trying to push it's way through.

The next morning {Sat} she woke up with an extremely swollen cheek and even more pain in her face.  I took her right away to the urgent care on post.  The dr told us that it was cellulitis and that along with antibiotics to be taken orally, she also needed a shot of antibiotics to get the medicine right into her system.  The infection was getting close to her eye, and that could cause some very scary things if the infection kept traveling up towards her brain. Poor McKayla had gotten herself so worked up thinking that the shot was going to be given through her cheek.  She finally calmed down when the nurse who was giving the shot told her that she would be getting it in her butt.  I don't know if it was the thought, or a nurse saying the word "butt", but she started giggling.  As soon as that needle made contact though, she started screaming and crying.  After the horror was over she turned around with tears in her eyes and said to the nurse, "I wanted to be a Veterinarian when I grew up, but then I found out that I would have to do surgery on those cute animals....I just can't do something like that.  I don't know how you nurses and doctors can get up the courage to hurt little children like that."  I about died!

Sunday morning when McKayla woke up, the swelling had gotten worse and was traveling up and around her eye.  So I had to take her in to the urgent care again, this time thinking that she would have to have it drained.  To my relief, and McKayla's horror, her doctor decided to give her one more injection of the antibiotic. {which took much bribery on my part to get McKayla to hold still for the shot}  Poor girl had to go through another round of screaming and crying!  But this morning I am happy to say she woke up with the swelling a little bit reduced!  I was so relieved that we didn't have to go again and be admitted.

6 years old!!!

Before I get into all of the fun things that we did, let me get this off of my chest.  So the night before Teyton's birthday, I slaved over making these super cute Minion cupcakes for Teyton's class.  Well, I took Teyton out to breakfast after dropping McKayla off to her early morning choir practice.  After dropping Teyton off to school, I hurried home to get ready so I could volunteer in Teyton's class and bring the cupcakes for him to share with his friends.  When I got home, the stinking dogs were left out of their kennels and ate 2 doz of the cupcakes that I had made!!!  I was so mad, and I am not going to lie, I cried, haha.  I blame it on the pregnancy hormones.  Oh well, I ended up just buying some cupcakes from the store because I didn't have the ingredients, or the time I needed to make 2 dozen more cupcakes. Grrrr!  But, his class said that they were the best cupcakes they have ever had, haha!

After school was over, we had tons of fun opening presents and playing with them all.  Teyton was so fun to watch playing with his rollerskates and skateboard that he has been coveting after since the beginning of the year.  We ended our fun birthday day eating at Cici's Pizza per Teyton's request.

early birthday celebration

Teyton wanted to go swimming for his birthday, and unfortunately this year his birthday landed on a school/work day.  So we decided to go to the pool the Saturday before his birthday!  I have decided that it has been far too long since we have been swimming.  We use to go all the time at the beach in Hawaii, but since we have moved here, we usually just end up going to splash parks.  Kayla and Teyton have turned into little scaredy cats in the pool!  I need to for sure sign them up for swimming lessons next summer!  But they had fun....playing in the kiddie pool, haha. Oh well, it is his birthday activity, and he had a ton of fun doing it!
